What a gift overlay actually does

Gifts are the only thing on TikTok LIVE that carry money, and a viewer who sends one wants to see that it landed. A gift overlay is the acknowledgement. The point is not decoration — it is that the next gift becomes more likely because the last one visibly did something.

Gift alertsName, gift and coin value on screen the moment it lands, in the tier colour — white, cyan, gold, magenta as the value climbs.
Goal barA target you set. It fills as coins come in, and sweeps when it is hit. The single widget most likely to pull a stream over the line.

Thirteen games your chat plays with gifts

Gift Arena, Boss Battle, Gift Pong, Gift Races, Gift Snake, Action Wheel, Tip Jar, Throne King, Giveaway, Aquarium, Survey Showdown, Vault Crack and Plinko Drop. Each one has a trigger you choose — a specific gift, any gift over a coin value, or a chat keyword — so a Rose can do something different from a Lion.

Games where gifts affect what happens on screen are ordinary on TikTok LIVE. The line TikTok draws is paid entry into a random prize draw, which is why none of these are raffles.

Setting it up

  1. Make the overlay. Pick a theme, set your name and goal, choose which widgets are on screen.
  2. Copy the link. One URL. It is yours and it stays the same.
  3. Paste it as a browser source — a Web source in TikTok LIVE Studio, a Browser source in OBS. 1080×1920, and put it above your camera.
  4. Change anything later from your phone. The overlay updates live; you never touch OBS again mid-stream.

Does this work if I go live from my phone? No — and no overlay does. Browser sources only exist in TikTok LIVE Studio (Windows) or OBS (Mac and Windows). If you stream from a phone you can still download a green-screen version of an animation and use it in TikTok's Green Screen effect or a CapCut edit.

Do I need a virtual camera? No. One link, pasted as a browser source. Nothing sits between your camera and the stream.
